Summary:

Named as a member of Schnebly Hill Formation (named) for exposures on Bell Rock, a butte 7 mi south of Sedona in sec 12, T16N, R5E, Sedona quad, Yavapai Co, AZ, Basin-and-Range province. [These exposures are the type section?] Extends into the Plateau sedimentary province. Is dominated by ripple laminated, very fine grained sandstone and silty sandstone. Averages about 500 ft thick in Sedona and Beaver Creek areas. Thins east by grading into Big A Butte Member (reassigned from Supai Formation) of Schnebly Hill. Overlies Rancho Rojo Member (named) of Schnebly Hill at many localities. Westernmost extent of main body of Bell Rock is Dry Creek. Tongues westward into Sycamore Pass Member (named) of Schnebly Hill. Nomenclature chart, cross sections. Rocks assigned to Bell Rock in this report were assigned to upper member of Supai, and at Big A Butte, the lower tens of meters of the Big A Butte Member in earlier reports. Of Early Permian, Leonardian age.
