Vokes, H.E., 1939, Molluscan faunas of the Domengine and Arroyo Hondo formations of the California Eocene: New York Academy of Sciences Annals, v. 38, 246 p.

Summary:

Named suggested by E.R. Atwill (personal communication). Type section is exposures along Arroyo Hondo north of Coalinga [Fresno Co] CA. Named applied to strata that have been referred by various writers to Martinez, Meganos, and Tejon stages. Formation includes (ascending): Cantua Sandstone member (Anderson and Pack, 1915), Ragged Valley shale member (new), and unnamed white sandstone member. Cantua Sandstone member has maximum thickness of 4500 ft. Ragged Valley Shale member ranges from 100 to 500 ft; white sandstone, from 100 to 300 ft. Unconformably overlies Moreno formation; unconformably underlies Domengine formation. Age is Eocene (Capay stage) based on molluscan fauna. [note that name Arroyo Hondo is preoccupied by White (1938) for Arroyo Hondo shale member (upper of 3) of Lodo formation.]
