Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (composite): three exposures along Sconondoa Creek in eastern part of Oneida quadrangle; (1) discontinuous section exposing lower and middle part of member, beginning south of Route 5 in village of Vernon and extending south-southwest to point 0.2 mi north of Oneida Road, southeast corner Oneida quadrangle; (2) section extends west for about 0.5 mi from William Street in Sherrill and outcrops in abandoned quarry north of creek and 0.1 mi west of Elmwood Place, southern Oneida quadrangle; and (3) abandoned quarry 0.1 mi west of Morgan Road, 0.45 mi south-southeast of the four corners at Sconondoa, central Oneida quadrangle, central NY (Zenger, 1962).
