Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: in Hamilton Creek (elevation 1,360 ft), a tributary of Glenn Creek. Mapped as far east as West Danby where it is exposed at elevation of 1,350 ft. Name derived from hamlet of Moreland, Schulyer Co., central NY, 2.5 mi south of type section (Sutton and others, 1962).
