Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type area: exposures on west flank of Inyo Mountains within Waucoba Mountain quadrangle, east and southeast of abandoned rail station of Monola, central CA. Principal section (type section): on northwest-facing spur in SE/4 sec. 6 (projected), T. 10 S., R. 35 E., about 1 mi east of Mule Spring. Supplementary section: on southwest-trending spur, in SE/4 SE/4 sec. 33 (projected), T. 10 S., R. 35 E. (Nelson, 1965).
