Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: in bluff on north side of MO Highway 74, 1.5 mi east of Dutchtown, in SE/4 NW/4 NE/4 sec. 20 (projected), T. 30 N., R. 13 E., [Cape Girardeau 15-min quadrangle], Cape Girardeau Co., southeastern MO. Type section supplemented by Midwest Dairy Company well at Cape Girardeau. Named from Abernathy School, 2 mi north of type section (Templeton and Willman, 1963).
