Data Model Design Team meeting 4 June 2003, Millersville PA

Progress report on action items from last meeting is included herein for the record:
NORTON 0.91 was placed on the web site.
Action items related to completing NORTON were begun, including:
- NORTON distribution to NADMSC
- NORTON revisions: class hierarchy, cardinalities, notes and definitions.
Action items related to review are pending completion of NORTON.

GEON: discussion on the potential relationship with GEON re:
- Use of NORTON for the global schema in GEON's map interoperability activity;
- Possible upgrade to NORTON from GEON process-oriented data modeling;
- Is there need of a formal relationship?
ESRI: development of ESRI geodatabase data model:
- ESRI released on their web site a preliminary geology data model that is derived by Steve Grise and Boyan from NADM and the Kentucky prototype;
- It was noted that the experimental nature of the release needs to be better communicated and Boyan will ask ESRI to revise their presentation.
EU: international data model:
- As a result of a BGS visit to GSC, a group of mainly EU geological surveys are variously committing to explore agreement on a standard (i) conceptual model, (ii) XML encoding, and (iii) ESRI 8+ implementation, starting from NADM.
- An initial meeting, TBD, is being planned.
Summary: a number of organizations and people are expressing various interests in NADM; this implies NADM needs to set the public status of the model.
