NC Geol. Survey usage (Stuckey and Conrad, 1958).
Age modified (Overstreet and Bell, 1965; Bryant and Reed, 1970; Hadley and Nelson, 1971).
Restricted (Hatcher, 1977).
Informal NC State usage (Brown, 1985).
[According to GNU records (USGS DDS-6; Reston GNULEX), it has been suggested by several authors that the Whiteside be abandoned, but usage of the name continues. Assigned age of the unit has ranged from Precambrian to Carboniferous.]
