This Web site contains information on activities of the National Geologic Map Database Project (NGMDB). The NGMDB is a collaborative effort primarily involving the USGS and the Association of American State Geologists. This Web site contains informal, generally time-sensitive material intended for project members, cooperators, and interested
State Contacts for the
National Geologic Map Database
The NGMDB project works closely with designated contact people in each state geological survey (see table below and Explanation). Please send corrections to Dave Soller. Thank you for helping us build the NGMDB!
Map Catalog -- the state-designated contact person who helps build the Map Catalog.
The contact person:
identifies maps in state publications and other publications of interest to the state survey, creates bibliographic records for these publications, and works with USGS personnel to load these records into the Map Catalog,
identifies among the submitted Map Catalog records all digital products that are available on the state GS server, and provides URLs so these can be accessed through the Map Catalog; these links may be to purchase and/or download the product,
identifies publications that are out of print, and informs USGS personnel how these publications should be represented in the Map Catalog (e.g., refer users to Depository Library, or to state survey library), and
especially for bedrock and surficial geologic maps (but not limited to these products), works with the NGMDB to make images available through the NGMDB Map Catalog's image library.
