  Description:
    Abstract: General-purpose 1:24,000-scale geologic map of Suquamish quadrangle and parts of the Seattle North quadrangle that are on the Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island. Map area is at north edge of Seattle fault. Mapped geology is entirely Quaternary and comprises non-glacial deposits and glacial deposits mostly related to the last, Vashon, glaciation of the Puget Lowland.
    Purpose: General-purpose geologic map. Dataset should be of particular interest to those concerned about earthquake hazards, groundwater availability, landslide hazards, coastal resources and processes, and land-use planning.
    Supplemental_Information:
      Spatial data are in Washington State Plane projection, North zone, units = survey feet. Horizontal datum is NAD83-HARN, spheroid GRS 80.

      Map largely interpreted from and compiled onto 6-ft resolution lidar digital elevation model (DEM). Underlying lidar data, acquired 1996-1997 and 2000, and DEM are available from Puget Sound Lidar Consortium (http://pugetsoundlidar.ess.washington.edu).

      This dataset conforms to the NCGMP09-v1.1 standard (http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Info/standards/NCGMP09/). The native data structure is an ESRI file geodatabase (.gdb) with ancillary files. The geodatabase contains the following elements:

      - DataSources (non-spatial table)
      - DescriptionOfMapUnits (non-spatial table)
      - Glossary (non-spatial table)

      - CorrelationOfMapUnits (feature dataset): a GIS-format description of the correlation of Map Units diagram that contains the following feature classes:
      -    CMUPolys
      -    CMULines
      -    CMUText

      - GeologicMap (feature dataset): descriptions of all features plotted on the geologic map, excluding base-map features. Contains feature classes:
      -    CartographicLines
      -    ContactsAndFaults
      -    DataSourcePolys
      -    GeochronPoints
      -    GeologicAnno
      -    GeologicAnnoLeaders
      -    GeologicLines
      -    GeomapNWPoints
      -    LithObservationPoints
      -    MapUnitPolys
      -    OrientationPoints

      Metadata records associated with each of these elements contain more detailed descriptions of their purpose, entities, and attributes.

      Non-spatial tables DataSources, DescriptionOfMapUnits, and Glossary store metadata. All spatial features and some non-spatial features have related entries in table DataSources. DescriptionOfMapUnits defines and describes geologic map units that are delimited in feature class MapUnitPolys. Most technical terms used as feature attributes (including all TYPE terms and all CONFIDENCE terms) are defined in table Glossary.

      Most features have explicit internal feature-level metadata, including LocationConfidenceMeters, one or more Source attributes, and--as appropriate--ExistenceConfidence, IdentityConfidence, and OrientationConfidenceDegrees.

      Two shapefile versions of the dataset are also available. The COMPLETE shapefile version consists of shapefiles, DBF files, and delimited text files and retains all information in the native geodatabase, but has limited usability. The SIMPLE shapefile version consists only of shapefiles and is easily used, but lacks some information present in the native geodatabase.
