Named from occurrence in vicinity of Fort Tejon, Kern Co., western CA (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
Type area: on north slope of Tehachapi Mountains at extreme south end of Joaquin Valley, between Pastoria Creek on the east and Tecuya Creek on the west (Marks, 1941).
