Carters Member of Stones River Formation (GA)
Originally called Carter's Creek.
Named from exposures on Carters Creek, Maury Co., Nashville dome, central TN. Carters Creek arises from many several tributaries about 8 mi north of Columbia, Maury Co., flows essentially southward, joining Rutherford Creek about 3.5 mi north of Columbia (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
