Type section: exposures in sea cliffs 250 m east of new Point Loma Lighthouse, where base is 30 m above mean sea level and top is at top of cliff, Lat. 32 deg. 39 min. 55 sec. N., Long. 117 deg. 14 min. 45 sec. W., Point Loma quadrangle, San Diego Co., CA (Kennedy, 1971).
