Summary:

Denmark named as a member of Sherman Fall Formation and defined as alternating shaly and coarse-textured limestones constituting larger part of the formation. Calcareous fucoidal claystones present in higher part. Thickness about 170 ft. Base tends to be more resistant than the more shaly Shoreham member (new) below, but contact is indistinct. Contact with overlying Cobourg formation poorly defined lithologically. Age is Middle Ordovician (Mohawkian).

Summary:

Rank of Denmark raised to formation. Subdivided to include three new members in West Canada Creek area: (ascending) Rathbun limestone, Poland limestone, and Russia limestone members. Denmark contains several metabentonites. Grades into Canajoharie black shale southeastward. Underlies Rust limestone member (new) of Cobourg formation. Disconformably overlies Shoreham limestone.

Summary:

Denmark stratigraphically restricted by reallocation of basal Rathbun member to underlying Shoreham formation. In northwestern NY, lower part is subdivided to included Camp member below and Glendale member above. In Black River valley, consists primarily of coarse-textured fossiliferous calcarenites, few intercalated finer grained calcisiltites, and calcilutite of the Glendale member. Poland and Russia members not recognizable in sections north of Trenton Falls.
