Summary: First published use. Intent to name not stated. Probably named for exposures in Sevy Canyon, Deep Creek Range, Tooele Co, UT in the Great Basin province. No locality designated. Is a well-bedded, light mouse-gray, dense dolomite that occurs in layers 6 to 12 in thick. Contains a few darker beds at top. Locally has tiny nodules of light-colored chert. Basal bed above Laketown dolomite is conglomeratic. Is about 450 ft thick. Few crinoid stems and poorly preserved gastropods. Gradationally overlain by Simonson dolomite (new). Of Middle Devonian age.

Summary: Overlies gradationally to sharply the newly named Thursday dolomite and underlies gradationally the Simonson dolomite and Guilmette formations, undivided. Stratigraphic section 1,122 ft thick measured at point 5,540 ft N 78 degrees W of the Oversight mine in T12S, R12W, Juab Co, UT in the Great Basin province. Crops out extensively west and northwest of main ridge of Spors Mountain. Is a fine-grained massive mouse-gray dolomite of uniform and distinctive character. Is thin to medium bedded. Toward base, dark irregular chert fills joints and fracture planes. Is unfossiliferous in district. Assigned to the Devonian. Geologic map.

Summary: Red Warrior Limestone abandoned. Its rocks reassigned, in the Star Range, Beaver Co, UT in the Great Basin province, to the lower part of the Upper Devonian Pinyon Peak Limestone, the Devonian Sevy Dolomite, Simonson Dolomite, and Guilmette Formation, and to the Silurian Laketown Dolomite. Isopach map of lower part of latest Famennian age; ranges from 0 to 20 m. Lithofacies map; is a bioclastic limestone. [Upper part not discussed.]

Summary: Redescribed on basis of change in lithic designation from dolomite to dolostone (more appropriate term). Is mapped undivided with Simonson Dolostone in study area, Lincoln and White Pine Cos, NV in east-central part of Great Basin province. Is chiefly medium- to light-gray aphanitic dolostone in beds 3-5 ft thick. Weathers light gray and splits into blocky, angular fragments. Dolostone resembles aphanitic dolostone of overlying Simonson (Middle Devonian). Thin bed of fine- to medium-grained quartz sandstone occurs near top of unit. Total thickness is about 800 ft. Overlies Laketown Dolostone (Middle and Upper Silurian). Age is Early and Middle Devonian.

Summary: Is Lower Devonian formation shown only in cross sections in southern part of the Mountain Home Range in western Millard and Beaver Cos, southwest UT (Great Basin province). Is shown to overlie Laketown Dolomite (Middle Silurian). Is shown below Simonson Dolomite (Middle Devonian). Is described as uniformly light-gray-weathering, dense, finely crystalline dolomite that contains a few thin sandy beds. Regional thickness about 400 m. In subsurface only (see cross sections).

Dolostone
|
Summary: Is redescribed as dolostone. The name "dolostone" is used for rocks composed predominantly of the mineral "dolomite" on Figure 2 and throughout this chapter, although in the literature it has been common practice to use dolomite rather than dolostone in formal names of dolomitic formations and members. Occurs in stratigraphic column for west-central UT (Great Basin province); conformably above unnamed Upper Silurian dolostone; unconformably below Simonson Dolostone (redescribed) (Middle Devonian). In stratigraphic column for east-central NV (Great Basin province); conformably above unnamed Upper Silurian dolostone; unconformably below McColley Canyon Formation (Lower Devonian). Assigned to Lochkovian and Pragian (Lower Devonian).
