Type Locality:
Typical section in quarry 0.5 mi east of Manny Corners, 3 mi east-northeast of Amsterdam, Montgomery Co., east-central NY (Kay, 1937). Named from exposures along the Mohawk in vicinity of Amsterdam (Ruedemann, 1910).

Named in Black River Group (Ruedemann, 1910).
Assigned to Trenton Group; Principal reference (Kay, 1937).
Revised (Fisher and Hanson, 1951).
Extended into VT (Twenhofel and others, 1954).
