Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: on south side of valley of North Fork of Grove Creek, 5 mi south of Red Lodge, Carbon Co., southern MT. Named from Mount Maurice, prominent elevation on Beartooth front, [in center E/2 sec. 28, T. 8 S., R. 20 E., Mount Maurice 7.5-min quadrangle, Carbon Co., southern MT] (Dorf and Lochman, 1940).
