Not designated. Named from exposures in Gatuna Canyon, eastern Eddy Co., NM (Robinson and Lang, 1938).
Reference section: north side of Gatuna Canyon, in SW/4 SW/4 sec. 36, T. 19 S., R. 30 E., eastern Lea Co., NM (Bachman, 1976).

USGS publication reporting this unit in TX unknown. Uncertain if Gatuna Formation is used by the Texas Geol. Survey. --unresolved.]
