Type locality: west end of Scapegoat basin, in S/2 sec. 6, SW/4 sec. 5 and N/2 sec. 8, T. 18 N., R. 10 W., [Lewis and Clark Co.], northwestern MT (Deiss, 1938).
Named from Damnation Creek on west side of Pagoda Mountain, Flathead Range, northwestern MT (Deiss, 1933).
