Type Locality:
Not designated. Named from Escabrosa Ridge, Mule Mountains, Cochise Co., AZ (Ransome, 1904).
Type section stated to be "just west of Black Gap" (Hayes and Landis, 1965).
Principal reference section: near west edge of Mule Mountains, in NW/4 NE/4 sec. 9 and SW/4 SE/4 sec. 4, T. 23 S., R. 23 E., AZ (Hayes and Landis, 1965).
