Type section: west wall of Jarbidge River Canyon, about 122 m west-northwest of confluence of Buck Creek and Jarbridge River, in center N/2 sec. 28, T. 16 S., R. 9 E., Dishpan quadrangle, southeast Owyhee Co., southwestern ID. Named from Big Island, a plateau on east and west sides of Jarbridge River, Elko Co., NV, and Owyhee Co., ID (Coats, 1985).
