Type Locality:
Type section: strata exposed near top of bluff at bend in Clifton Avenue just under the old Bellevue House, a onetime landmark now disappeared, Cincinnati, OH (Nickles, 1902).

Named (Nickles, 1902).
Assigned as member of McMillan Formation (Hyde, 1959).
Redefined as lithologic unit and called Bellevue Limestone; Principal reference section (Ford, 1967).
Reassigned as Bellevue Tongue of Grant Lake Limestone in KY (Swadley, 1969).
Revised to member of Grant Lake Limestone (Schumacher and others, 1991).
Overview (Wahlman, 1992; Jennette and Pryor, 1993).
Age modified (Frey, 1995).
