Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Renault Twp., Monroe Co. southwestern IL; excellent exposures are in Horse Creek Valley and tributaries in eastern part of Twp. (Weller 1913).
Type section: lowest gully on the south side of Dry Fork, in SE/4 SW/4 sec. 23, T. 4 S., R. 9 W., Renault quadrangle, Monroe Co., IL (Swann, 1963).
