Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: quarry in east bluff of Mississippi River, and exposures in bluff north of quarry, 0.25 mi north of West Point Landing, in SE/4 NE/4 SE/4 sec. 19, T. 7 N., R. 2 E., Foley 7.5-min quadrangle, Calhoun Co., IL. Named from Metz Lake on floodplain of Mississippi River, Calhoun Co., IL, 5 miles north of type locality (Templeton and Willman, 1963).
Reference sections in MO: (1) roadcuts on north side of MO Highway 30 between House Springs and Cedar Hill, in NE/4 NW/4 SE/4 sec. 18, T. 42 N., R. 4 E., Hillsboro 7.5-min quadrangle, Jefferson Co.; (2) roadcuts at Lewis Road exit of U.S. Interstate Highway I-44 immediately east of bridge over Meramec River, in center W/2 SW/4 sec. 33, T. 44 N., R. 4 E., Manchester 7.5-min quadrangle, St. Louis Co.; (3) roadcuts on MO Highway 30 near Weber Hill, Jefferson Co.; and (4) roadcut on U.S. Interstate Highway I-55, in W/2 NW/4 sec. 19, T. 41 N., R. 6 E., Herculaneum 7.5-min quadrangle, east-central Jefferson Co. (Thompson, 1991).
