Type area: at Glenshaw, community north of Etna, Shaler Twp., valley of Pine Creek on northern outskirts of city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA. Entire unit is nowhere exposed in one place (Flint, 1965).

Unit Name History:
Named (Flint, 1965). Overview (Roen and others, 1968). Extended into WV (Cardwell and others, 1968). Areal limits (Rice and others, 1994b).
