Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: along east end of Walcott's (1908, Smithsonian Miscellaneous Colln., v. 53, no. 5) Waucoba Spring section, east of Waucoba Springs, on Saline Valley road, east of Inyo Range, Inyo Co., central CA. Named from exposures at Mule Spring on west flank of Inyo Mountains, Waucoba Mountain quadrangle, CA (Nelson, 1962). Best section on ridge, in sec. 27, T. 11 S., R. 37 E., but is faulted (Ross, 1967).
