Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures at Edgecliff Park, southwest of Syracuse and 1 mi northeast of Howlet Hill, Camillus quadrangle, Onondaga Co., central NY. Most accessible exposure at Split Rock, but name preoccupied (Oliver, 1954).
