Litchfield norite is name used by Prof. Hobbs [unpublished] and in this report for certain dark gray rocks forming parts of Mount Prospect, near Litchfield, in western CT. Does not form large masses, but is associated with granodiorite, diorite, and amphibolite. Age not stated.

Rocks are mapped as informal Litchfield mafic intrusives. Redescribed to include medium- to coarse-grained mostly massive olivine norite, quartz norite, and hypersthene pyroxenite. Cut by dikes of several rock types from pyroxenite to granodiorite. Origin of name stated. Age given as pre-Triassic.
