Summary:

Table opp. p. 62, p. 65. Sinbad limestone member of Moenkopi formation. On west side of San Rafael Swell the Moenkopi formation includes, about 200 feet above base, a fairly persistent member of thick-bedded light-gray sandy limestone and sandstone, 40 to 150 feet thick, here named Sinbad limestone member, from excellent exposures in Sinbad [Plateau], [Emery County], central eastern Utah. Age is Early Triassic.

Summary:

Is one of four members of the Moenkopi Formation. Known areal limits shown on a figure. Crops out in San Rafael Swell, Teasdale uplift, northern Circle Cliffs uplift, and northwest part of Monument upwarp in the Paradox basin of UT. Thickens from west to northwest from less than 10 ft (Monument upwarp) to 103 ft north of Torrey (San Rafael Swell). Measured sections. At most localities, overlies the newly named Black Dragon Member of Moenkopi. The basal contact represents a lithologic change from the ledgy cliff-forming gray sandstone, siltstone and limestone of the Black Dragon to massive cliff-forming gray limestone of the Sinbad. Underlies the newly named Torrey Member of the Moenkopi. The contact is a change from gray dolomite and limestone (Sinbad) to ledgy slope-forming gray sandstone, siltstone and mudstone of the Torrey. The Torrey and Black Dragon can only be distinguished where Sinbad is present. The lower contact may be intertonguing. Contains gastropod, pelecypod, ammonite (MEEKOCERAS), scaphopod, echinoderm, and conodont fossils. Assigned an Early Triassic (Smithian or Spathian Stage). Correlates with Thaynes Formation of UT, MT, WY, and ID, and with Timpoweap Member of Moenkopi in southwest UT. Cross sections.
